Abstract:
Synthesis of polyreactive blue MXR dye was achieved through
polymerization of reactive blue MXR dye followed by chemical
oxidation with potassium persulfate. The change of colour from
blue to brown is one of the indications for the formation of
polyreactive blue MXR dye. Fourier transform infrared
spectroscopy (FTIR), UV visible spectroscopy, Atomic force
microscopy (AFM) and X-ray diffractrometry (XRD), Particle size
analyzer were used to characterize the polyreactive blue MXR dye.
UV-visible spectral study confirms the extension of conjugation
in polyreactive blue MXR dye. From the study of FTIR spectrum
for dye and polymer dye, absence of asymmetric stretching of NH2
group in polymer dye spectrum confirms that the polymerization
achieved successfully. The size of the polymer dye was found to
be nanosize (18.11nm) by X-ray diffraction study. AFM analysis
showed the three dimensional view of the nanosized reactive dye.
PSA analysis showed the size reduction of polymerized dye.
