Abstract:
The
present paper deals with the synthesis and study of transition
metal complexes of copper and iron with 2-[N-(4-nitrophenyl)
ethanimidoyl] phenol as ligand. The synthesized ligand and metal
complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, XRD, FTIR,
1H NMR, UV-Vis, Magnetic spectral studies, Mössbauer and VSM (Vibrating
sample magnetometer) measurements. The XRD analysis revealed the
crystalline nature of all the compounds. UV-Vis measurements
have assigned the square planner and octahedral geometry of Cu (II)
and Fe (III) complexes, respectively. VSM measurements revealed
the paramagnetic nature of Cu complexes at studied temperature
range, while Fe(III) complex followed magnetic phase transition
from paramagnetic to antiferromagnetic nature at low temperature.
Mössbauer study interprets paramagnetic nature of Fe(III)
complex at room temperature.
