Abstract:
Kaolinite clay (KC), calciumcarbonate (CC) and precipitated calcium
carbonate (PCC) were modified with stearic acid (SA). The
concentrations required for building up monolayer coverage of stearic
acid on the surfaces of KC, CC and PCC fillers were determined from
the adsorption isotherms. Different composites of PVC and surface
modified KC incorporated with surface modified of CC or PCC at
different loading of surface modified KC were prepared. There is
indirect proportional relationship between Young's module and KC
loading incorporated with surface modified CC which at lower loading
of the surface modified KC incorporates with surface modified CC, the
PVC composites gave higher Young's module but above mentioned
relationship does not occur with the composites which are incorporate
with surface modified PCC at the same operating conditions, The effect
of adding different fillers were studied with the mechanical
properties and thermogravimetric analysis measurements, XRD and SEM.
PVC/surface modified KC incorporated with natural surface modified
CaCO3 (with stearic acid) composites were used in the endue
applications.
