Abstract:
Granular metallic zinc and aluminum were used to reduce the chlorine
species into chloride in chlorine solutions. Optimum conditions were
investigated with regard to pH, particle size and contact period.
After 35 minutes, OCl- and HOCl were removed completely at
pH 5.94 for Al and pH 9.99 for Zn. These pHs are for minimum
solubilities of Al(OH)3 and Zn(OH)2.
